CallReply on iPhone: simple mode and Shortcuts automation

On iPhone, no app can read the call log or send a text on its own: that is an iOS rule. CallReply adapts with a simple mode, where you confirm each send, and an automatic mode built on the Shortcuts app.

To do: tap Send in Messages

What is different on iPhone

On iPhone, you tap Send. CallReply checks your rules and prepares the message; all you do is tap Send.

A rule set by Apple

iOS does not let any app access the call log or send a text without the user acting. On iPhone, you are always the one who taps Send.

You confirm each send

Simple mode

You paste the missed caller's number, CallReply checks your rules and opens Messages with your text already filled in. All that is left is to send it.

Messages pre-filled

Automatic mode with Shortcuts

When your carrier sends its missed call alert text, a Shortcuts automation runs CallReply's actions. The reply is prepared and recorded.

Automation started

The same guardrails

Sending switched off, subscription, STOP list, daily cap, number already answered today: CallReply checks these rules before preparing the message.

Rules checked · STOP list respected

Getting started on iPhone

  1. 01 Sign in to your account Use the same account as the web space: your templates, STOP list and caps all apply.
  2. 02 Try simple mode Copy the number of a missed call, paste it into CallReply, then tap Send in Messages.
  3. 03 Build the Shortcuts automation In the Shortcuts app, trigger an automation when your carrier's alert text arrives and add the CallReply actions.
  4. 04 Check the history Every prepared reply appears in your history, on the phone and in the web space.

Why does iPhone work differently from Android?

On Android, CallReply reads the call log and sends the automatic text from your own number, even with the phone locked. Apple made a different choice: on iPhone, no third-party app can look at past calls or send a text unless you tap Send. This is not a setting you can switch on; it is a limit of the system. We would rather say it plainly: on iPhone, CallReply saves you time on every reply, but it cannot offer the fully automatic sending that Android allows.

How does simple mode work?

After a missed call, copy the number from the Phone app and paste it into CallReply. The app checks your account rules: sending switched on, active subscription, number not on the STOP list, daily cap not reached, number not already answered today. If everything is fine, Messages opens with your template filled in, in French or English. You read it over, tap Send, and the text goes out from your own number, as an ordinary message the customer can reply to.

What does automatic mode with Shortcuts do?

Some carriers send an alert text when you miss a call. Apple's Shortcuts app can react when that text arrives and run CallReply's actions, which prepare and record the reply. This mode therefore depends on your carrier and on what its alert covers: with some, it only arrives when the phone was off or unreachable, not for a call you simply did not pick up. Test it with your line before relying on it. App Store publication is in preparation.

Who is it for?

For professionals on iPhone who want to reply quickly without retyping the same message twenty times a week. Simple mode cuts each reply down to a few taps, while applying the same rules as an Android account: STOP list, daily cap, one text per number per day. Your wording stays consistent and your history stays complete.

For mixed teams where some people use Android and others iPhone. Everyone shares the same web space, the same templates and the same STOP list. If fully automatic sending is essential for you, an Android phone running CallReply remains the better fit, and we would rather tell you that before you subscribe.

Good to know

Replying, not marketing

On iPhone as on Android, the text answers someone who called you: it is not prospecting. Name your business and keep it informational. For health or legal professions, no confidential details: “I'll call you back” is enough. A commercial offer falls under the rules of the French data protection authority (CNIL).

STOP list on iPhone

Before opening Messages, CallReply checks that the number is not on your STOP list. If it is, no message is prepared. The list is the same on iPhone, Android and the web space.

Your data

Your account data is hosted in France, with a retention period for each kind of data. The text leaves your iPhone through Messages, not through a third-party platform. Export and erasure are requested from “My data”.

Withheld numbers

A call from a withheld number gives you no number to copy, and the carrier alert does not include one either. CallReply cannot prepare a reply, so you will have to wait for the person to call again.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't CallReply send texts on its own on iPhone?

Because iOS forbids it for every app: none can read the call log or send a text without your action. CallReply prepares the message, and you tap Send.

Does Shortcuts mode work with every carrier?

No. It relies on the missed call alert text sent by the carrier. Some do not send one, others only when the phone was off or unreachable.

Where can I download CallReply for iPhone?

App Store publication is in preparation. Meanwhile, the Android app can be downloaded from callreply.fr, and the web space works from any browser.

Does my subscription cover iPhone and Android?

There is a single subscription, monthly or yearly, with every feature. What it can do on each phone then depends on what the operating system allows.
